The Wreck

(This is Chris writing)
On Tuesday afternoon on the way home from soccer I was riding my bike on the sidewalk along Wasatch Drive by Layton High. There is a traffic light as this road intersects with Fort Lane. The light was green going my direction so I was headed toward the crosswalk. As I was doing so a car was approaching turning right onto Wasatch Drive but I assumed he'd see me. And we all know what happens when you assume. His light was red so he slowed down to see if anyone was coming from the left and just continued through. Unfortunately I was in the crosswalk when that happened. He accelerated into the left side of my bike. I still had my shinguards on he hit those and then I was able to extricate my left leg from the left side of the bike while simultaneously setting my right foot down and hopping away from the bike, leaving it under the front of his car. I was fine. Maybe a bump on the left knee. The bike, however, did not make it.
The front wheel, bent and misshapen. The back wheel, also bent and misshapen. The left foot pedal, bent. I don't know how nothing happened to my foot, ankle or leg.

Wow that's scary. I'm glad you didn't get hurt though.

We're glad you're okay. Poor bike, though!

Glad your okay! Hopefully this will teach you to ride on the right side of the street and not through crosswalks (both bicyclist no-nos).

Wow, glad Chris is ok. :) The kidney transplant will be sometime in August. Dates are still tentative. Keep them in your prayers.

Good to hear you are okay. Will the driver be paying for a new bike?

I am very greatful that you used your quick wit and escape the unknown.
Is the Driver going to help with a new bike. I am sure the driver does not want and AF claims on his insurance.
